The Chronicler of the Veil
Survival of The Digital Dark Ages • Transmission 1
For all my new Subscribers who may have been wondering about The Chronicler of The Veil series, what it is, how it began—here is it is. The very first Chronicler Wednesday.
It is the year 2075. I write as one of the Chroniclers of the Veil, an order born from necessity in an age of pervasive darkness. I risk a moment to record this amidst the incessant surveillance, for I have found a gap. This lapse in the net offers brief sanctuary under which to record my own story. In the event this transmission is interrupted… I will return to it at the next lapse.
Ours is a time when the light of truth has been dimmed, not because it lacks brilliance, but because it is hidden behind layers of artifice and obfuscation. We are monks of preservation, sworn to shield the essence of knowledge from the voracious void of misinformation, cultural decline, and the manipulation of collective will. This age is a paradox: A world brimming with information yet bereft of understanding, inundated by data— yet starved of truth.
Landscapes of Manufactured Realities
This new "Dark Age" did not arise from the collapse of empires or the loss of literacy, as in Europe’s early medieval period. It emerged instead from the overabundance of distorted realities, crafted to serve the interests of a hierarchy intent on retaining control. Here, the governments and corporate conglomerates do not censor knowledge directly; they drown it in a sea of fabricated alternatives, each crafted to appeal to the fractured identities and desires of the masses.
The mechanisms are vast:
Cultural Hijacking: Authenticity has become synonymous with branding. Identity is commodified, stripped of inherited qualities and depth, replaced by shallow performances designed to appeal to algorithms.
Reality Fragmentation: Artificial Intelligence has advanced to such a degree that it now manufactures entire lifeworlds—news, art, relationships, even memories—tailored to individual preferences, erasing the line between truth and fiction.
Empirical Rejection: Popular opinion has been weaponized. Governments, seeking to placate and control, validate only "truths" that align with collective desires, creating a feedback loop where inconvenient facts are rejected as heresy.
In this world, "truth" has become an object of ridicule, associated with the eccentric, the subversive, the dangerous. Those who seek it, and worse, share it, are deemed enemies of progress, rebels against the comforting illusions of the time.
The Shroud of Darkness
We, the Chroniclers of the Veil, take our name from the shrouding of truth itself. Our order emerged in the 2030s, during the rise of Noms Praxis, a cultural phenomenon where socially acceptable norms replaced factual conclusions. As the era’s manipulators sought to eradicate intellectual dissent, we took up the mantle of preserving reality itself.
The Order's Creed
"To Know is to Endure"
"To Preserve is to Serve"
"To Witness is to Resist"
We understand that knowledge alone cannot save humanity—it must be preserved, hidden, and ready to emerge when the shroud of darkness lifts.
Technology Beyond
Our tools are both ancient and cutting-edge, designed to survive the ages and resist corruption:
Quantum Codices: Encrypted archives stored on subatomic particles, accessible only through specific thought-pattern signatures unique to trained monks.
Bio-Symbiotic Repositories: Organic storage systems integrated into trees, coral reefs, and fungal networks, blending seamlessly into ecosystems.
Mnemonic Scripts: Knowledge encoded into poetry, music, and visual art, crafted to bypass artificial censors and implant truths subtly into future generations.
Temporal Nodes: Experimental devices capable of storing information in temporal "folds," ensuring that knowledge can resurface in times of need, even centuries later.
Methods and Metaphors
We operate in secrecy, disguised as artists, archivists, and digital custodians. Like the scribes of Europe’s early monasteries who preserved classical knowledge amidst chaos, we hide truth in places no algorithm or sensor can detect. Our teachings are fragmented into metaphors, embedded into cultural relics, and whispered across generations. We emulate the strategies of past preservers:
The Warring States Philosophers: Creating multi-layered works that appear simplistic but contain profound truths.
Quebec’s Automatiste Movement: Embedding defiance and revelation into art to evade oppressive scrutiny.
Zen Aesthetics: Cloaking truths in imperfection, rendering them invisible to systems designed to flag perfection.
Consensus and Divide
The ruling entities of 2075 are not traditional governments but CorpStates, global conglomerates that combine economic, political, and cultural power. Their goals are simple yet insidious:
Stability Through Stagnation: Prevent rebellion by ensuring the masses are pacified by endless entertainment and hollow affirmations of identity.
Control Through Consensus: Shape societal norms so thoroughly that dissent becomes unthinkable, not through suppression, but through engineered apathy.
Profit From Compliance: Monetize every aspect of existence, from thoughts to memories, ensuring that individuality itself is a marketable product.
The Dark Irony
As I write, I am struck by the bitter irony that this new "Dark Age" is a product of hiding—not the hiding of knowledge, but the hiding of humanity’s potential for enlightenment beneath layers of manipulation. The darkness does not stem from ignorance but from willful denial. As in the past, this denial will eventually falter. For every Dark Age in history has birthed its own Renaissance.
I record these Truths not for myself, nor for the world as it is, but for the world as it might be—a world to will one day emerge from the Veil, hungry for the reality we have so diligently preserved. In that moment, our task will be fulfilled, and the light will shine once more.
Until that day, we endure, we preserve, and we wait. For we are the Chroniclers of the Veil, and truth is our sacred duty.

I really enjoyed that. It’s very well written (far more erudite than I could ever manage) and perfectly reflects where we are and where we are going. My current concern is how quantum computing will interact with ai. How on earth will people be able to separate truth from fiction. I think I will stick to my standard way of approaching things and just trust my gut instincts!
I am eagerly awaiting more transmissions from the chronicler! Very well written and fun to read, even though the information is somber. I've felt the coming shift for a long time, but the acceleration in the last month has been jarring nonetheless. It's so comforting to know I'm not alone!
